    Back Blurb

She has nothing left to lose... When Breena stumbles into the enchanted borderland of Cake, she is given the choice to return to her world or face the unknown. Unable to bear returning to her empty life, she embraces the challenge, much to the annoyance of the handsome, brooding Rune. He wants redemption... Long ago, Rune failed in his duty to guard the Queen Likely and vowed never again to let desire rule him. Then he meets Breena, the last Likely, and least likely, to succeed. Sworn to protect her from the killer who seeks to destroy Cake, Rune is forced to face his awakening desire for the one woman he can never have. Together, they embark on a magical journey to save Cake and while Rune abandons his heart, Breena discovers that she has everything to lose.

What I LIKED about this book.

Breena does not do the "this can't be real, it must be a dream." routine. Cake is crazy but what can you do but play along?

What I DISLIKED about this book.

If I say I will spoil it. All I can say is that I did not like the final location Breena ends up as much as other places. Everyone has a HEA so it is all good.

    Full Review

I have always been a fan of cake. When Dina Keratsis asked if I wanted to read her book Cake: A Fairy Tale, my first thought was it has the best title ever. Not just the title of the book but also the name of the land our heroine Breena finds herself in. If I become rich and own an estate you can name, I shall name it Cake.

With a book called Cake, you expect a certain level of whimsy. It delivers. I was unprepared for the darker themes. They work so well though. The beautiful place with magical creatures that has an ugly layer lurking just below the surface. That layer will kill you It is not playing around. Villen is the bad guy and he means business. His 'Dreds will skin you to feed their crackle habit. Not even unicorns are safe in Cake.

Best thing in Cake is Rune. The hero, he is equal parts hot and irritating. Cake is fantastical, a journey of self discovery. Keratsis takes myth and legend merging it with her original ideas. I loved sharing in Breena's adventure in Cake.
